Litton Lakes

Litton lakes are part of Bristol Water's Fisheries. In the past they were reserved fro the directors of the company. Now less 'elevated' mortals may fish there. Today was a Salmon and Trout Association day and so good company was an integral part of good fishing.

Litton is composed of two lakes, both tree lined and with the most delightful surroundings. The upper lake is deep and mostly clear. Fish can be seen cruising above the weed beds, and sight fishing is a real possibility. Because of its depth the fish tend to be around the edges. The lower lake is shallower and often becomes weedy and the water takes on colour. But it does have fish throughout the lake.

We fished the upper lake in the morning and caught fish as well as losing more than we should through stupidity and tying poor knots. The best moment was casting to a cruising fish and seeing it turn and ingest the fly. On the lower lake we had to hunt for the fish, blind casting until we started to have a few taps. We found the fish; they were feeding on the bottom on bloodworms and a simple chironomid pattern was their undoing.
